About the North Higher Learning Scholarship

The Anyabwelé Family Foundation was founded by Javonté and Talitha Anyabwelé to ensure our local communities had access to resources that were otherwise limited or withheld. The North Higher Learning scholarship was established to inspire North High School students to attend HBCUs and one day return to impact the North Minneapolis community.

Javonté Anyabwelé is a third-generation graduate of North High School in Minneapolis, MN. He went on to receive his B.S. in Business Administration and MBA in Finance from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, but was only motivated to do so after receiving a $5,000 scholarship from another Twin Cities native and two-time World Series champion for the Minnesota Twins, Kent Hrbek. The scholarship changed the trajectory of his life, and now he wants to do the same for other North High Polars.
